Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Bhubaneswar (Odisha): 19 year old Apurv Mishra attended the highly coveted Nobel Festivities besides receiving the diploma from the Nobel Foundation and Swedish Federation of Young Scientist.
Apurv says “I will never forget these days, these people, the Nobel Ceremony, the Banquet, the Ball, the Night Cap, or any other part of this trip."
This is the First time India has been represented since the inception of SIYSS by Nobel Prize Committee in 1976 and Apurv is the First & Only Indian SIYSS Awardee at Nobel Prize Ceremony. Also this the First time an Asian country beside Japan, South Korea , China & Singapore has been represented.
The selection for the award is a combined effort of The Nobel Foundation, The Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences and Swedish Federation of Young Scientists.
Apurv reached Arlanda Airport in Stockholm on 4 th Dec and the stay was arranged in “Af Chapman” the one-hundred year old sailing ship cum hotel with the Royal Palace, and the Grand Hotel just a hundred or so meters away.
The First two days was spend in learning ball dancing, etiquette, and table manners to prepare for the Nobel Banquet and the Nobel Ball.
“I periodically mixed up my steps and frustrated my dancing partners.” - Apurv And in the second day evening he went for the Swedish Smörgåsbord in a Castle. During the international evening each participant presented their country & culture.
Apurv did it little different, he had taken around 50 Patta Chitra for the Participants, Nobel Laureates and Committee sponsored by the DST, Govt of India.
“I told them India is such a vast country that even hours of talking won’t suffice, hence I shall share a story of Ramayana & Mahabharata with everybody giving each of them a patta chitra. They Loved it!” - Apurv
It started with the press conference with the Nobel Laureates at the Nobel Forum at the Karolinska Institutet.
Apurv had a special lunch and discussion with Goran K. Hansson , Secretary Nobel Prize Committee and the laureatesAfter that Apurv and the participants proceeded for most awaited Lecture. Apurv spoke for about 10 minutes on his research work & proceeded with interaction with the Nobel Laureates.
“It’s an honor to lecture amongst the laureates and around 700 local & international attendees.” - Apurv. After the lecture, the Swedish Federation of Young Scientists and Nobel Foundation awarded the Honorary Diploma to Apurv.
During the following days several events happened including the Nobel Lectures, most exclusive Nobel Foundation reception where he spend time with the laureates and also meet other interesting persons.
