Orissa Panchayati Raj department to publish revised BPL list
Report by Orissadiary correspondent; Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government has decided to begin the BPL survey work in the state from November 1. The survey work would be done on the basis of the BPL family survey done in the year 2002.Announcing this at a press briefing here after presiding over a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat here on Tuesday, panchayati raj minister Prafulla Samal said that those who were left out of the list will be included in the fresh list.

However, all steps will be taken to remove fake beneficiaries from the list, he added. It may be mentioned here that though the state government had conducted a survey of BPL families in 2002, it could not be finalized as the Centre did not accept the state's enumerations.

The fresh BPL household survey would be conducted based on the 2002 list. The minister also said that all the district collectors have been told to remove the names of affluent persons from the list.

The state government has named the collector of each district as the principal verifying officer and project directors (PDs) of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) as the district verifying officers.

All the officers, from collectors to panchayati raj members, would be given training in a phased manner. District collectors will be given training on October 16.
