BPUT authorities decided to conduct sixth semester examinations from May 12 - June 7

Bhubaneswar : Acting tough on the NFT issue, BPUT authorities on Tuesday asked the - not fit for technical education (NFT) students to take the  issue to court, if they were unwilling to take the special examination. The authorities also suggested that the students may drop a year and repeat the second semester.

Amidst uncertainty over the issue, varsity authorities have decided to conduct sixth semester examinations from May 12 - June 7, while exams for the fourth and second semester will be held after May 25. Meanwhile, the Orissa Private Engineering Colleges Association (OPECA) on Tuesday demanded that the Governor should form an expert committee to look into the issues plaguing the BPUT.

OPECA secretary Binod Dash said, "Our main aim is to safeguard the future of technical education in the state. When set up, the norms and regulations of the university were be an example for other universities. But due to frequent students' agitation and relaxation of rules, the standard has gone down. So we placed several proposals on the controversial NFT rule, regulations and pass or fail rule to meet the present crisis." BPUT vice-chancellor Omkar  Nath  Mohanty saidthat they  have offered them several options, but if they do not agree with the conditions, then they can go to court. Those who can't secure 4.5 semester grade per average in the first three semesters, can not complete the course.
