Bhubaneshwar: Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS), one of India’s oldest spiritual and charitable organizations, with prominent history, founded by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917, today held a public discourse for the residents of Bhubaneswar as a part their centenary celebrations. The event commenced with a prayer and bhajan session followed by Swami Ishwarananda Giri, Member, Board of Directors, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India speaking on the topic of Kriya Yoga - An Ancient Science for the Modern Age, highlighting the benefits of the ancient scientific path of controlling the mind by nurturing peace and calmness.
Elucidating on the topic, Swami Ishwarananda Giri, Member, Board of Directors, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, stated, “This occasion provides us a rare opportunity to discuss about Kriya Yoga- the ancient yet scientific path of controlling our ever wandering and restless mind and nurturing peace and calmness that helps in the overall development of body, mind and soul. Kriya Yoga is the is the essence of all spiritual practices and it is the common highway of all religions and is mentioned in the Bhagvad Gita. Within a very short time, by the practice of the scientific technique of Kriya Yoga, one can get the simultaneous development of body, mind, intellect and soul. By magnetizing the spine by a very simple way of Kriya practice, one can perceive the all-accomplishing divine energy in the body, which in turn hastens physical, mental, intellectual transformation and ultimately gives constant God-consciousness. Kriya Yoga cures and prevents many unknown and fatal diseases and assimilating power which confers a healthy mind and body. By the practice of this scientific technique, the body and mind remain disease-free, enabling one to live a complete life span.”
By the practice of the scientific technique of Kriya Yoga, the entire human system is energized in a very short time. All the internal organs like liver, pancreas, spleen, thyroid, pituitary, pineal organs are activated. They secrete necessary hormones and enzymes to keep the body fit. There will be sufficient blood circulation in the brain and spine for balanced supply of oxygen to every remote part of the body. The digestive system, gastro-intestinal system, cardio-vascular system, respiratory system, excretory system, nervous system, genital system, etc. become active and efficient.
The Kriya Yoga technique highlights the relationship between breath and mind. It is based on a scientific breathing that pacifies the mind, slows the breathing process, and makes the breath flow inside the nostrils instead of outside.
By the practice of Kriya Yoga the mind becomes in short time calm, quiet and thoughtless Kriya Yoga also helps in intellectual development whereby one can cope with any situation or circumstance and think positive. Kriya Yoga also helps in making the bond of friendship stronger and one’s power of understanding increases so that he/she can take the right decision at any critical moment.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda’s whole mission was to introduce to the modern world, especially those in the West, India’s ancient philosophy of Yoga and its scientific methods of meditation. In addition to personally teaching thousands of Westerners how to meditate, he made accessible a knowledge of Yoga through his spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi (the only book that Apple founder Steve Jobs had on his iPad), which has been translated into more than 45 languages, including 13 Indian languages. In ancient India Rishi's chalked out scientific methods for gradual spiritual unfoldment. Therefore Yoga is definite and scientific. Yoga means union of soul and God, through step-by-step methods with specific and known results. It raises the practice of religion above the differences of dogma. Like any other science, yoga is applicable to people of every clime and time.
