Report by Ronalisa Parida, Berhampur: The encroachment work that have been started here on Monday at the Sana Bazar and Big Bazar areas by the BMC (Berhampur Municipal Corporation) is on its way with similar force on the second day of intrusion. The whole market is closed as the entrance points of hundreds of shops including 10 grocery shops are entirely vanished at the Sana Bazar square towards the Big Bazar.
Many jewelry shop owners are being affected by this encroachment as the entrance points of the shops are totally infringed which had been constructed on heights form the surface. It has been complained by the owners of the shop that appropriate notices are not given to them by the BMC officials before beginning the encroachment work.
In a similar way 8-10 grocery shops in the Raja gorji area are vanished whereas 8-10 shops are not affected by this encroachment as not constructed on the Government owned land. The Tahasildar of BMC Satrughna Kara said,“ even though planning were made earlier to encroach the Government land in certain parts of the city, but due to public pressure and to make the entire road free the encroachment work has been started inside the city from the Sana Bazar square and will continue to Haradakhandi square. Later the encroached land will be utilized in a better way.
Earlier on the first day on Monday the important parts of the very old Hanuman temple have been encroached as situated on the road side. Drozons were moved on both sides of the road at Sana Bazar and Cnina mart area.
Although complains were made by some people for the notifications of the encroachment, it has been announced on the Sunday night and as per said by the Mayor of Berhampur “it is a step forward to make a planned city and to solve the traffic problems at the Big Bazar area.
