After 45 years in India; KISS University to Host World Congress of Anthropology-2023

 

Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University, which is regarded as the world’s largest anthropological laboratory and first ever tribal university of the world, has been received the privilege to host the 19th International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) World Congress-2023 which is held every five years in different parts of the world, informed Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS in a press meet in Bhubaneswar on 29th July. Briefing the press he said, KIIT & KISS have been doing exceedingly well in attracting the attention of the world to these institutions by thus increasing the prestige of the state. Several mega events have come to the state because of constant efforts of KIIT & KISS.

India, represented by KISS, won the bid against Croatia by a huge margin to host the next World Congress of Anthropology-2023 in collaboration with Utkal University and Sambalpur University and Indian Anthropological Association, Delhi during the congress held in Brazil from 16th to 20th of July 2018. This Mega event, which will be held from 15th to 19th January 2023, is expected to be attended by more than 10000 delegates from over 150 countries. The IUAES is the largest gathering of academicians and researchers in the fields of Anthropology and Ethnology in the world. In this global meet of the scholars engaged in the scientific study of humankind, KISS and Odisha would be projected in all its beauty and charm.

KISS had applied earlier in 2014 but lost the bid to Brazil then. However in 2018, Prof. Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, VC, Utkal University; Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera, VC, Sambalpur University and KISS team presented the plan before the General Assembly to host this mega event in Odisha. India will be hosting this prestigious meet after a long gap of 45 years, which is a matter of pride for the country in general and that of Odisha in particular. This World Congress would definitely bring Odisha a lot of visibility and the entire state would be a perfect centre for MICE Tourism.

The World Congress takes place once in five years. India hosted the IUAES World Congress of Anthropology only once, way back in 1978 under the leadership of Late Professor L.P. Vidyarthi in Delhi on the auspices of Indian Anthropological Association, Delhi. Besides the major Congress, there will be some Pre-Congress and Post-Congress in different parts of India. Department of Anthropology, KISS, Department of Anthropology, Sambalpur University, Department of Anthropology, Utkal University and Indian Anthropological Association, Delhi are the partners of the World Congress.

Prof. Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Prof. Deepak Behera, and Prof. Harekrushna Satapathy, VC, KISS Deemed to be University were also present and briefed the media.
