Report by Kishore Dash; Bhubaneswar: As many as 110 remote villages in Naxal-affected cut-off area, on the other side of the vast Chitrakonda reservoir in the district which have no electricity supply since long will soon be illuminated thereby opening a new window for the development of the region to where right now there is no on road connectivity. This apart, electrification work is also in progress in the 144 partially electrified villages and hamlets in the cut -off region and it’s periphery.
Once, the 76 crore rupees power project being implemented by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCL) and executed by TATA under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) of the Government of India is completed , the inhabitants of 110 villages in the cut off area will be benefited thereby beginning a new chapter of development in the cut off region, said District Collector K. Sudarshan Chakravarthy while speaking to this paper.
Of the 110 unelectrified villages as per SCOPE, works have already been completed in 105 villages. Similarly, electrification has been completed in 73 of the total 144 partially electrified villages in the cut off region, he added.
Connecting remote villages in a area like cut-off region was a biggest task for us. Reaching the requisite equipment like poles transformers and conductors to the to the area by motor launch was equally challanging , but we undertook the project in the intrest of the people of as power consumption is highly correlated to human development, Charavarthy claimed adding about 12,000 households including 3343 BPL families will get the benefit.
Once the electrification of the villages is completed , it will bring a great change in the lives of the people in the region, said Gobardhan Hantal, an inhabitant of Pansput village in cut off area. Describing the ongoing electrification work as a life changing project, Sanyasi Pujari of Badpadar also expressed similar views.
Giving the details , a TATA official here said that the roject work is on full pace with the all help from the district administration and the local villagers.
182 numbers of Distribution Transformers of 16, 25 and 63 KVAs have already been erected so far in the 105 unelectrified villages covering 2847 BPL families. This apart, conversion of two phase to three phase line coveting a distance of 70. 9 km has also been completed. Similarly, 101 Distribution Transformers have also been erected in the 73 Partially electrified villages including 496 BPL families . Conversion work for the change of two phase to three phase line covering a distance of about 30. 375 km has also been completed, the TATA Official said.
