Bhubaneswar: Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on May 1st, 2016 in Balia, Uttar Pradesh and completed one year on May 2nd 2017.

The journey in the 1st year of PMUY in our country transforming the lives of Women in India has been a road full of satisfaction.

We would like to immensely thank all the members of the media for making the scheme a phenomenal success. Your contribution in this success story has been a reason for the popularity and acceptance of a social transformation scheme of this magnitude.

The scheme , launched with the vision of our PM has been truly “Sab Ka Saath & Sab Ka Vikas.”

Under the scheme a LPG connection is released to BPL women who figure in the SECC list and has seen cleaner & greener fuel being used in the households leading to health benefits not only to the women but to everyone in the household.

The toxic smoke emitted by conventional solid & other fuels contains particulate matter and many harmful chemicals that not only cause reddened eyes, but also choke and corrode lungs, causing several ailments, including acute and chronic respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. The smoke also contains carcinogens – chemicals that cause malignancies, especially lung cancer. This had been the cause for many loss of lives and ailments.

Under the scheme Every PMUY LPG connection is free of cost and includes the security deposit of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder, pressure regulator, suraksha hose, DGCC booklet and administration & installation cost for distributor. PMUY primarily serves rural womenfolk, who are now increasingly enjoying the experience of individual identity .PMUY has thus truly given them dignity and a renewed confidence to face the world.

PMUY has become synonymous with women empowerment and social inclusion.

In the current year Oil Marketing Companies plan to conduct about 3000 LPG Connection Distribution/Safety programs across the state. Apart from this all the distributors have been advised to conduct exclusive safety clinics’ for PMUY LPG Customers enrolled to reiterate the safety parameters. It is expected that more than 5000 such clinics will be conducted throughout the state.
